This is Us Gets Spiritual

December 31, 2016

This Is Us is my favorite new TV show. It’s heartwarming and engaging. But, the biggest surprise has been the spiritual undertone. In Episode 4 Kevin shares his Painting of Life with his nieces to teach them about life and death.

He muses, what if we’re in the painting before we’re born…what if we’re in it after we die… and eventually we’re just one thing… one painting… there’s no dying… there’s no you or me or them… there’s just us…

What if life is a painting and we’re all in it – and we’re all just one? #ThisIsUs, Start at 2:39

When I watched this I was deeply moved. I felt like the writers were capturing my beliefs — that we’re all connected and that there is no death.

And then I watched an aftershow clip where Chrissy Metz, who plays adult Kate on the show, took it a step further. She shared that she believes the child chooses the parent… we have lessons that we get to learn… lessons we get to teach… And that these lessons have meaning within the context of a prior life or a future life…

#ThisIsUs Aftershow, Start at 2:26

I was stunned

I believe that we choose our parents and our lives for a specific purpose.

I also believe deep spiritual hypnosis can help you find out why you chose this life and what your purpose is.

But, I didn’t always believe this

I was a born-again Christian teenager. I attended and later taught at a Christian college. My graduate degrees are from an evangelical seminary. And my husband likes to remind me that I was working at a Presbyterian church when we met about 10 years ago.

So, what happened?

The Christian community of faith was my family for many years and I’ll always be grateful for that. But, no matter how hard I tried I could never quite fit in.

My family has always been a bit “intuitive.” But, as a Christian this made me uncomfortable. Then, I had a serious health crisis as a young adult and the only thing that worked was alternative medicine. Though it was out of my comfort zone, I began working with a holistic healer. I got better. And I also began opening up to my own intuitive gifts.

In 2012 I began hypnosis training. That was so far out of my comfort zone that I needed my own hypnosis session to finish the class! But, I felt like I was on the road to finding my true spiritual home.

The following year, I lost my beloved dog. I was beyond grief stricken. A dear hypnosis friend suggested a medium. This was the farthest out of my comfort zone yet. But, I went. And I found healing and hope. I learned that there is no death. We are all connected always. We are all one. (For more about My Story)

I began exploring how deep spiritual hypnosis, such as Past Life Hypnosis is another way to connect to the “other side.” I discovered that you can also find out — who you are as a soul and why you chose this life — the lessons you were hoping to learn.

Now it’s hitting the mainstream

We’re all one. There is no death. We’re here to learn lessons. Pretty incredible. Happy New Year.
